Pipeline job training to begin

A partnership between Nash Community College and the Atlantic Coast Pipeline offers training and job opportunities on the pipeline.

From the article:

Wendy Marlowe said NCC will be helping to train workers needed for pipeline construction.

"The community liaison called us about developing a training curriculum for the pipeline workers," Marlowe said. "We are working with other community college in developing a course that will offer OSHA 10 training for safety regulations as well as training in areas such as rigging, signaling, first aid, tool identification, flagging, shoring, trenching, asphalt paving and erosion control."

Carla Dunston, dean of continuing education at NCC, said the course, which will be a 40-hour construction "boot camp," will be required of anyone who works on the pipeline project and will be provided free of charge.

Dunston said the community college is helping to screen applicants, and the recruiting effort is going on now.

The classes will be starting in about six weeks and construction will begin soon after, Alford said, so people interested in the positions need to apply right away.
