Thank you to our essential workers

We’ve seen a lot of changes in the daily lives of Americans over the past several weeks. From businesses to schools to other institutions, people have been doing their part to move their lives home and stay physically distant to slow the spread of the coronavirus. But there are many essential workers who aren’t able to stay home.

Healthcare workers, truck drivers and grocery store employees are all making extraordinary sacrifices to keep America running. We also want to say a huge “thank you” to the utility employees who are helping to keep us safe, comfortable and connected at this time by ensuring that lights stay on, homes stay warm on cool nights, and the cable and internet services are keeping up with demand.

Reliable energy for the present and the future

Now more than ever, energy infrastructure like the Atlantic Coast Pipeline is vital. Communities in Virginia and North Carolina have had inconsistent and insufficient energy for years, and urgently need reliable, affordable natural gas. Without this new energy source, U.S. military installations in Virginia, manufacturing and other critical industries will remain vulnerable to shortages. And the ACP remains key to the energy of the future, too, where it will help economies thrive and support a number of solar and wind projects.

We also need to get people back to work. Permitting fights have caused needless expense, delaying many economic benefits and preventing hard-working Americans from accessing the kinds of well-paying jobs that projects like the ACP create. Thankfully, the ACP is still progressing, with permitting issues working their way through the courts and agencies.

But now is not a time to grow complacent.

Not only will the ACP bring new job opportunities and millions of dollars in tax revenue to municipalities once complete, but it will have an immediate positive economic impact to hotels and restaurants in project communities as soon as construction can restart safely. For communities already seeing effects from the coronavirus, we know there can be no more delays.
