Poll Confirms Virginians Support The ACP
A recent increase in vocal opposition to the Atlantic Coast Pipeline (ACP) has caused some to wonder about the true level of support for the project. A recent poll affirms what EnergySure Coalition members already know —Virginians support the pipeline by a margin of nearly two to one.

On Oct. 19, 2016, the Virginia Chamber of Commerce released the key findings of an independent poll conducted by The Tarrance Group. The group interviewed 500 registered “likely” voters in Virginia earlier this month.

Survey participants were given a description of the project and then asked, “Do you support or oppose building the Atlantic Coast Pipeline project through Virginia?”

55% of voters responded in support of the Atlantic Coast Pipeline Project, while only 29% were opposed, and 16% were unsure. Those in support of the project outnumbered those who oppose by a ratio of nearly 2:1.

Furthermore, 35% of audience members responded with strong support, while only 19% responded with strong opposition. Across state media markets, the rate of support remained consistently high. Supporters across the state broke down as follows: Washington, DC 54%; Norfolk 58%; Richmond 56%; Roanoke 57%, and all other areas 51%.

The poll also covered topics including the presidential election, Redskins Virginia Stadium, trade, and the Right to Work ballot initiative.
