Virginia Chamber poll finds support for Atlantic Coast Pipeline

A poll conducted for the Virginia Chamber of Commerce finds that Hillary Clinton leads Donald Trump by 9 percentage points in Virginia and that a plurality would back moving the Washington Redskins stadium from Maryland to Virginia.

The poll also finds that 55 percent back the proposed Atlantic Coast Pipeline as described in the survey.

The poll is based on telephone interviews conducted Oct. 12-15 with 500 likely voters. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.1 percentage points.

There also was support for Dominion Resources Inc., the Richmond-based energy company, leading the $5 billion Atlantic Coast Pipeline project.

In the poll, 55 percent say they support the pipeline, as described in the survey, and 29 percent oppose it, with 16 percent unsure.

According to the pollster, voters were read the following description: “There is a proposal to build an underground natural gas pipeline called the Atlantic Coast Pipeline. The pipeline would bring domestically produced natural gas to families and businesses in Virginia and North Carolina to meet energy and electricity needs. The pipeline would begin in West Virginia, travel across Virginia, and end in Eastern North Carolina.”
